That might seem an easy call, when Scarlett Johansson's face is undeniably pretty to begin with. But it is possible to make a mess of something beautiful! On that occasion her choice of hair style was much less astute.In the first picture of the bottom row her hair is frozen at bizarre angles. It's one thing for a woman's hair to defy gravity. It's quite another to do it gratuitously. There's no reason for Scarlett Johansson's hair to reach out from the side of her forehead in this photo. With no visible support it's presumably held by some industrial strength glue ... er, hair spray. It looks awful, and if you touched it her hair would feel like straw, or cardboard, or lacquered papier mache. Not nice! Not inviting. Scarlett Johansson doesn't even look like herself. She could be any old celebrity after a heavy night - puffy-eyed, hair awry, a bit out of it. But change the angle on this hair style and things begin to look up. You can see the same hair style just seconds removed in time, in the last picture of the second row and the third in the bottom row. Seconds removed, but what a difference in looks! As Scarlett Johansson glances over her shoulder in a classic pose you can hardly see that glue-caked, anti-gravity hair! What's visible merely highlights the lovely lines of her face. She doesn't look like Scarlett Johansson, especially with that fringe angled harshly over her forehead. But she is, suddenly, a celebrity who warrants a second glance! Celebrity Hair Styles - Scarlett Johansson Version 2The next day finds Scarlett dressed casually, still in Italy and promoting Match Point with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Happily, she's changed her hair style.Maybe she slept on it. It's still medium length, still wavy and curly in a forced sort of way, but now it's very much softer round the face. And Scarlett Johansson looks like Scarlett Johansson. Celebrity Hair Styles - Scarlett Johansson Version 3It was a very different look she chose to promote Match Point in Los Angeles, earlier in December 2005.She's unmistakably herself in two of these images - second in the top row and first in the middle. This curly, softly styled hairdo allows her face to shine, and that radiance is one of the defining qualities of Scarlett Johansson. But the glow is gone when you change the angle. Is that really Scarlett Johansson in the second photo of the middle row? Or is it some anonymous celebrity in a crowd of Somebodies, wearing Scarlett Johansson's hair style, gown and jewelry? The last Los Angeles Match Point photo is the fourth in the bottom row. Now her smile is ironic, and her eyes have narrowed. Same hair style, whole new ball game! |
