It's a big, loose, untidy and exuberant challenge to the stifling instincts of maturity that drive many women in their 50s into perms and quaintness.

Deborah's long, straight hair is teased out in a cloud round her face. It rises at the top, and one side sweeps over her head in a storm front that plunges across her upper face and surges right to the very tip of her shoulder. The other side widens away from her forehead and cheek, an inner section falling parallel to her face and an outer section widening again beside her narrow and chin.
