Female Celebrity Long Hair Photos

The gallery above, of female celebrity long hair photos, is our first, and offers a sampling of female celebrities pictured with their hair long - Rebecca Romijn, Alicia Silverstone, Jessica Alba, Tara Reid, Sienna Miller, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman, Ana Beatriz Barros and Kristin Kreuk.

Some of these women have two or even three photos. It's not because I like them - well, I do - but it's also because they use their long hair in different ways. Some successful, some less so.

Success, of course, is measured in terms of how attractive a woman's long hair makes her. That's a subjective thing, certainly, but there are rules of attraction, or at least widely held ideas about what is beautiful, and what is not.

Female celebrities do everything they can to encapsulate prevailing cultural notions of what constitutes beauty. It's surprising, therefore, when you find a well known woman looking deliberately unattractive.

Our first two female celebrity long hair photos are of Rebecaa Romijn. In one picture she looks gorgeous. In the second photo she looks hard and angular, everything a celebrity woman usually tries not to be.

Her long hair is raked up and back, exposing a face that is not only long and rectangular in its proportions, but dead square at the top.

Pushing her hair higher has only added more length to Romijn's already long face.

The overall impression of a rectangle on its end is confirmed by the narrow, vertical plunge of her hair past her straight cheeks, past her sharp jaw, all the way to her shoulders and beyond.

Why would a habitually glamorous female celebrity wear her long hair like this - and then let someone take photos of it?

Look at the shape of her face!

The first photo, on the other hand, shows a completely different woman, one whose face retains all the strength of its lines but is now soft, feminine, and deeply attractive.

In this photo it's no accident that Rebecca Romijn's hair curves across her forehead, on one side cutting off the end of her brow, the edge of her eye and all of her cheek. She's knocked off the sharp bits, the corners and straight lines, and she's done it to make sure her face looks like an oval.

Because that's what our society likes.

In the bottom row, the first three female celebrity long hair photos are of Sienna Miller.

This woman knows how to use her long hair, maintaining a rounded profile round the top half that makes her whole face look pretty. When she wears a cap, she's careful to ensure a perfect curve where it meets and conceals her long blonde hair.

Sienna Miller looks older in one of the photos - where she wears a blue and white striped dress. I don't think it's a female celebrity long hair issue. Maybe it's nothing more than the light picking out shadows around her mouth.

But it's interesting.

The two female celebrity long hair photos at the end of the top row show Alicia Silverstone, and they're very different pictures. She's hard faced and sulky in one, soft and flirtatious in the other.

Apart from her expression - it's amazing what a smile can do - it comes down once again to how a female uses her long hair. Bringing it over her face instantly softens her features and emphasizes the eyes.

It's a technique that Brazilian model Ana Beatriz Barros takes to wonderful extremes.

She has three female celebrity long hair photos in the middle row, sandwiched between Jessica Alba and Tara Reid.

In two photos, Barros' long hair is styled into sweeping curves that open a window onto her face. Her brunette picture focuses on her stunning features. The second photo uses the sweep of hair to echo the apparently smooth curve of her face from cheek to chin.

In fact, this dazzling celebrity model has a jaw line that can be as angular as any female's. But she uses long hair to shape her looks.

She can use it as a backdrop, too, as she does in her third photo.

A youthful Amy Brenneman appears in the top row, between the photos of Rebecca Romijn and Alicia Silverstone.

Brenneman's long hair, like others', has been styled to create an oval impression of her face. Her natural hair texture is actually extremely curly, though she's barely wavy here, and Brenneman has her own female celebrity long hair photo gallery at Celebrity Hair Cut Photo.
