The shortest version is also the least successful. You can see it in the last two pictures of the top row.

Her mouth and eyes look particularly strange in both images, but that's not a hair style issue.

On her left, which is to say on the right side of these two photos, her hair falls steeply so that it covers the edge of her forehead and cheek.

It's a bad decision.

It makes her face thinner when she needs to widen it.

Her hair on the opposite side descends in a flat, narrow band that follows her cheek. Doing nothing to widen her features, it emphasizes instead the vertical lines that are so much a part of Sarah Jessica Parker's face.

The result is an ugly woman with a hair style that looks like it belongs to someone else.

Compare these two pictures with the gallery's middle photo.

Here is a much more interesting Sarah Jessica Parker.

On the right of this picture, her hair doesn't cross her face at all. It's boosted right away from the forehead and cheek so that we see the darker hair beneath, and the line of her ear.

In our mind's eye these features become part of her face, and they make her face seem wider.

More width is added on the other side too, where her hair is layered and boosted to add more volume and roundness in the upper half of her face.

The effect is immediate. Sarah Jessica Parker is more attractive, with a wider, rounder face.

She's attractive, too, in the first picture of the bottom row - the third version of this straight, blonde, medium length hairstyle.

In fact she looks positively pleased with herself, head cocked cheekily for the camera.

Her hair is closer to the cheek on one side but lifted at the forehead. On both sides it's layered so it pulls away below the ears.

The jaunty tilt to her head is important, too. It shortens her face and presents a smooth round line at the jaw, while her hair tumbles in a distracting, widening river of soft blonde highlights and shadows.

It's a style that doesn't really work.

Compare two photos - the image we first discussed under Sarah Jessica Parker Hair - Medium Attractive, and the photo directly beneath it in the bottom row.

In that bottom row picture she forgot to leave her ear free. That ear was important, too, a crucial element in improving her face shape.

That whole side of her hair style is a mistake, offering only a bulge of shadow at the eye line where, in the middle row image, differing hair colors had made her face seem wider all the way up to the part.

The bulge of shadow pushes in as well as out so that Sarah Jessica Parker's face, already plastic in texture, seems dented and misshapen as well. Her eyes appear as hard little stones set deep in the damaged face of a mannequin.

This is not Sarah Jessica Parker at her best. But does she realize that her hair and face have let her down?

I think she does. That's why, on this occasion, she's chosen to boost other assets into the limelight.
